Tony Awards: 'A Strange Loop' Tops Nominations

A Strange Loop finished off the 2022 Tony Awards selections with 11 gestures.

The creation, which won the Pulitzer Prize for best show in 2020 after it was seen off Broadway in 2019, is up for best melodic, best course, best lead entertainer (Jaquel Spivey), best highlighted entertainer (John-Andrew Morrison), best included entertainer (L Morgan Lee), best unique score, best arrangements and best book, best grand plan, best lighting plan and best sound plan of a melodic.


The melodic — from Michael R. Jackson, who composed the music, story and verses — follows a Black eccentric man attempting to compose a melodic as he wrestles with wants, personality and senses.

Moreover, three Tony regulars — Sutton Foster, Hugh Jackman and Patti LuPone — will each be competing for their third Tony Award. Cultivate and Jackman are named for the sensational recovery of The Music Man restoration, which is the huge hit of the time, earning more than $3 million per week for an aggregate film industry more than $57 million. Cultivate recently won for Thoroughly Modern Millie and Anything Goes, and Jackman is a previous champ for The Boy From Oz and his performance show, Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway. LuPone, a previous champ for her jobs in Evita and Gypsy, is designated for her part in the orientation flipped recovery of Stephen Sondheim's Company.
